Cathy has had a passion for art since early childhood. She began her art training at the Baltimore Museum of Art and continued her training at the Maryland Institute College of Art as a young teen. She graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Before training as a Classical Realist painter Cathy was a botanical illustrator at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC. for many years and is widely published in a variety of scientific journals. Feeling the need to grow artistically, she completed a four-year classical atelier program at the Schuler School of Fine Arts in Baltimore, MD. Cathy trained with and was inspired by Ann Schuler and the entire cadre of Schuler instructors. She continued her studies at the Winter Palace Studio in Bethesda, MD with Natasha Mokina and Victor Pakhomkin who are both graduates of the renowned Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg, Russia. Cathy’s training has included a variety of workshops and classes with prominent artists to include David Leffel, Robert Liberace, and Burton Silverman. She has also attended several two-week workshops at the Academy of Fine Arts in Russia. Cathy is a member the International Guild of Realism (IGOR), the Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS).
I paint in order to explore and reflect on a moment in time. My goal is to tell a story through the interplay of colors, forms, tones, and textures. To capture a moment and share that with the viewer, connecting at both an intellectual and emotional level.
