Bio

Regardless of the level attained, the creative spirit of an artist can never stop learning. Artist Hebe Brooks is no exception to this rule. She seeks artistic knowledge at every opportunity and she challenges herself to go further in pursuit of inspiration and development of technique.

“My love for art has been present since my childhood when I spent endless hours drawing or painting.” Hebe who grew up in the windy and cold land of Patagonia, began traveling at an early age. As a student in Pennsylvania, painting was her favorite class. In college, she enjoyed art history and world culture classes. Upon graduation, she traveled extensively and worked in different parts of the world visiting art museums and archaeological sites from Europe to the Far East and all through the Americas. Learning other languages allowed her to imbue in the cultures where she lived and to share ideas and traditions that would have gone unnoticed. A second degree in Fine Arts-Studio Painting and Art History from the University of Houston with the School of Art banner carrier distinction led to the consolidation of her devotion to art.

Today Hebe’s work has several signature elements. Some of these are her use of reflections, her use of fabric twisting and turning its way through the artwork, the incorporation of an unusual character and a passion for detail and perfection that sets her work apart. It is also this passion that has led to several awards and acceptances into esteemed juried exhibitions. Within the last years, her paintings have received numerous awards. Recent ones are Best Landscape at the International Guild of Realism 2023, The Alden Bryan Memorial Medal Award at the Allied Artists of America 109th Annual Exhibition 2022, Best of Show at the Annual Richardson Exhibit, Silver Award at the 35th Bosque Arts Classic, Outstanding Landscape Award American Women Artists; First, Second and Third Place Awards in many exhibitions; Best Still Life Awards at the International Guild of Realism, Outstanding Still Life Award American Women Artists; People’s Choice Awards, multiple honorable mentions, and four times Finalist Recognitions from the International Artist Magazine. Her paintings were part of the Touring Exhibition of the Masterworks from the International Guild of Realism. A list is available in her website.

Most afternoons, one can find Hebe painting in her studio; however, her involvement with art extends beyond the studio walls. She is a current member of several artists’ associations including Master Artist of The National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society, Signature Artist American Women Artists Organization, Signature Artist for the National Society of Artists and for the Texas & Neighbors Organization, Elected Member AAPL and Member of IGOR and Allied Artists of America. Volunteering for art related activities to increase art awareness is also one of Hebe’s priorities. She is in the NOAPS Board of Directors, she is a docent at the Museum of Fine Art Houston, and judge for several art exhibitions. Total immersion in the art world is a concept she likes to pursue.

Art writers have recognized Hebe’s work in art publications such as the International Artist Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur and the American Art Collector Magazine. Her paintings have been published in catalogs and art books. The dedication to art is palpable in Hebe’s paintings. Her work has received the admiration of art patrons and it is part of private and public collections. She seeks the creative spirit and artistic knowledge at every step in her daily life.
