Bio

Jorge Alberto González was born in Cuba in 1949 and emigrated to the United States with his family in 1965.

In 1969 after completing studies at Union Hill High School, Mr. González enrolled at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, graduating with a certificate of completion with honors in 1972. he returned to the School of Visual Arts in 1976 and graduated a year later with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Graphic Design Mayor.

In 1978 Mr. González moved to Baltimore, Maryland and work as a graphic designer for 18 years at WJZ-TV13 Graphic Art Department.

In 1991 he started attending the Schuler School of Fine Arts, studying for four years under master artist Ann D. Schuler. After graduating from Schuler’s,  in 1994 he moved to Florence, Italy, where he continued his studies under John Michael Angel, a year later Mr. González came back to the US and made Pembroke Pines, Florida his home. In 1983 he returned to Baltimore to work on his art career.

Mr. González is a contemporary realist artist that paints “trompe l’oeils” a style of painting intended to create the illusion of a three-dimensional object on a two dimensional surface.

Mr. González artistic process began as a child by observing the work of the old masters with the helps of art books and the support of his parents. Because of this he has always been attracted to the realistic quality of the paintings of Michelangelo da Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci and Diego Velazquez, a style he emulates.

Mr. González paintings spring from a lifelong fascination with the drama of light and the deception of illusion, for that reason he enjoy creating works of art that have these qualities.

His primary source of inspiration for his diverse subjects matters comes from surrounding himself with the items he is going to paint, this way becoming familiar with them and creating a connection important for his work.

Mr González is a recipient of many awards for his work including the “Lorenso il Magnifico” bronze medal in painting from the 2001 the Florence International Biannual of Contemporary Art, Florence, Italy. His art work is in many residences in the U.S. and Europe and is in several public   collections including Calvert Hall College High School, George B. Young Hall,  the Baltimore City Hall Building and the State House in Annapolis, Maryland.

Mr. González lives and work in Baltimore, Maryland and paint under the name “Jorge Alberto.
