Born and raised in England during the 1950s, Richard’s first love was realism art. His college education was frustrating, steeped in conceptual art rather than traditional practices, reflecting the trends of 1970s art colleges. After moving to the United States in 1978 he began exploring various mediums, including printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, and acrylic painting, finding himself primarily drawn to abstract painting.
Working with an international publishing company, he achieved commercial success with his abstract works. Despite that success, he felt a sense of artistic dissatisfaction. It was a health scare—a minor heart attack—that prompted him to reassess his artistic direction. Choosing to listen to his heart, Richard embarked on a new path, returning to his love for realism painting.
