Bio

Robert Steiner has had a highly distinguished career in a number of painting genres, including landscape and wildlife.  Mr. Steiner is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. Mr. Steiner has taught at the University of California, City College of San Francisco and a number of other colleges. He has received the Childe Hassam purchase prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.  He has been awarded commendations from both the Governor and the State Senate of California.   

He won the First-Place award in acrylics at the American Artists Professional League’s 2023 Spring Show.  He won Third Best of Show at 2023 International Guild of Realism’s Fall Salon.  And he won the Best Acrylic Award at the AAPL’s 94th Grand National Exhibition in 2022.  He won the Best Landscape Award at the 2021 and the 2022 International Guild of Realism’s Spring Salons.  He was a finalist in the landscape category of the 15th and 16th International ARC Salons 2022 and 2023.  He has won two Federal Duck Stamp art competitions and eighty-two state duck stamp art contests – the most of any artist.  He has also won numerous other purchase prizes and awards.  His work has raised over thirty million dollars for environmental preservation around the United States.

His work has been profiled in many newspapers, magazines and books including the New York Times, American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur, Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, San Francisco Chronicle, U.S. Art, Wildlife Art, Midwest Art, Sporting Classics and Inform Art.  He has also appeared on local and national television.

His works are in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution, Duke University Art Museum, the Peabody Museum, the California State Museum and a number of other public collections.  Additionally, his artwork is in thousands of private collections.

In his paintings, he attempts to communicate his sense of wonder and appreciation for the unspeakable beauty of the natural world.  He has always marveled at the minute detail of the universe as well as its vast expanses.
