From the first time I fixed my eyes on a Classic Realism painting it forever changed the way I look at art.  The masterpiece had “fooled my eye” into seeing a three-dimensional scene on a flat two-dimensional canvas.  It engendered in me a desire to study and later to honor the Old Masters by pursuing their mastery of the figure.   

In my “Dramatic Realism” paintings, I intentionally leave out full revelation of the scene to awaken the viewer’s imagination.  My paintings are filled with intrigue and my canvas a silent invitation to the viewer’s emotional involvement.   Portrayal of invisible light sources and shadowing contribute to the false perception of depth.  I like to choose everyday models, and then transform them into beautiful creations with unusual colors, lighting and of course abstract shadows.  This dramatic colorful lighting creates drama and mystery to the figure. This new style combines everything that I enjoy in quality painting such as dramatic lighting, interesting composition, skillful technique and a unique blend of exciting color.

If you abandon your sense of reality and surrender to the mood, my paintings will hopefully come to life and then draw you into the world of realism.  In my “Dramatic Realism” paintings, it is my hope that the ordinary can become extraordinary.
