Judd/Artists Rights Society (ARS) New York Hand Stitched Thread on Hand Dyed Rust Pigmented Textile Rusted Lace #7 is a continuation of the ongoing Rusted Lace series. The ground is a whole cloth textile that has been hand dyed using light turquoise and medium fuchsia. Examining the piece closely reveals crystal and ice-like shapes resulting from the dyeing process. Scientific iron filings and butcher paper were used to rust the custom design onto the ground. Dense hand stitching echoing the rusted design, creates the shadow and light play across the artwork using light blue thread in the background and rust colored thread on the design created in the rusting process.
